World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988.World AIDS Day is important because it reminds the public and Government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.World AIDS Day is an opportunity to show support to and solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV. Wearing a red ribbon is one simple way to do this.

The PREAMBLE

The 'preamble' of the Constitution of India is a brief introductory statement that sets out the guiding purpose and principles of the document, and it indicates the source from which the document which derives its authority, meaning, the people.The hopes and aspiration of the people as well as the ideals before our nation are described in the preamble in clear cut words. It may be considered as the soul of Constitution. The preamble can be referred to as the preface which highlights the essence of the entire Constitution. It was adopted on 26 November 1949 by the Constituent Assembly and came into effect from 26th January, 1950.

Constitution Day - November 26

Constitution Day in India is celebrated every year on 26th  of November as the constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th of November in the year 1949 and came into force on 26th of January in 1950. Dr. Ambedkar is the Father of Constitution of India. After the independence of India Dr. Ambedkar was invited by the Congress government to serve as a first law minister of the India. He was appointed as the Constitution Drafting Committee’s Chairman on 29th of August.He was the chief architect of the Indian constitution and known for the strong and united India.

Children's Day - 14th November

CHILDREN'S DAY

Children's Day is celebrated on 14 November, on the birthday of the first Prime Minister of independent India, who was fondly called Chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru) or Chachaji (Uncle), and who emphasized the importance of giving love and affection to children, whom he saw as the bright future of India. He wanted to enhance the progress of Indian youth for which he established education institutes like AIIMS, Indian Institute of Technology. To give him tribute, India celebrates this festival on 14 November, the day of his birthday.

Many functions are organized in schools, offices and other organizations. Most schools hold cultural performances on this day, run by the children themselves. Teachers also get involved, and may perform songs and dances for their students.

World Food Day - 16th October

"Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty"

World Food Day is a day of action against hunger. On October 16, people around the world come together to declare their commitment to eradicate hunger in our lifetime. Because when it comes to hunger, the only acceptable number in the world is zero.

World Food Day celebrates the creation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on October 16, 1945 in Quebec, Canada. First established in 1979, World Food Day has since then been observed in almost every country by millions of people.In North America, grassroots events and public awareness campaigns engage diverse audiences in action against hunger.  From hunger walks and World Food Day dinners to meal packaging events and food drives, there are many ways for people to be a part of solutions to hunger. 

Tourism Day - 27th September

“Millions of tourists, millions of opportunities”.

The World Tourism Day celebration was started by the United Nations World Tourism Organization in the year 1980 which is celebrated every year at 27th September. This particular day was selected as at this day the laws of the UNWTO came into force in the year 1970 which is considered as the big landmark for the global tourism as it aims to aware to people about the significant role of the tourism inside the international community as well as to exhibit how the social, economic, cultural, political values are affected by it globally.

Literacy Day - 8th September

The International Literacy Day was decided by the UNESCO at 7th of November in the year 1965 to celebrate it at 8th of September every year which was celebrated first time in the year 1966. It was started celebrating all over the world to emphasize the great importance of the literacy to the individuals, society and communities. The day is celebrated specially to rememorize the status of the literacy and adult education to the international community.The International Literacy Day was decided by the UNESCO at 7th of November in the year 1965 to celebrate it at 8th of September every year which was celebrated first time in the year 1966. Teacher's Day - 5th September

The day was marked for the celebration as Teachers’ Day since 1962 in respect and deference of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was born on 5th September, 1988. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a great scholar, philosopher and teacher of modern India and was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954. He became the second President of India in 1962. Therefore it was only natural that his birth day would be celebrated to pay respect towards lakhs of unknown teachers across the country. It was his wish that instead of celebrating his birth day on 5th of September every year, it would be better to celebrate it as Teachers’ Day in whole of India.

India’s teacher’s day is different from the World Teacher Day which is celebrated on 5th of October every year in whole world.

Sadbhavana Day

(20 August 1944 – 21 May 1991)

Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated every year in the memory of Rajiv Gandhi who dreamed to make India a developed country. His vision of making India a developed country is clearly seen by the number of economic and social works for the country. His enthusiastic and inspiring words quoted for the country development during his speech are still remembered at his birth anniversary. His quotations are very inspiring which inspire the youths of the country to lead India. 

One of his quotations is as follows:

“India is an old country, but a young nation; and like the young everywhere, we are impatient. I am young and I too have a dream. I dream of an India, strong, independent, self-reliant and in the forefront of the front ranks of the nations of the world in the service of mankind.”

Independence Day - 15th August

Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, is a National Holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from the British empire on 15 August 1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely non violent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC). Independence coincided with the partition of India, in which the British Indian Empire was divided along religious lines into the Dominions of India and Pakistan; the partition was accompanied by violent riots and mass casualties, and the displacement of nearly 15 million people due to sectarian violence.

On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime minister of India that day, raised the Indian National flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. On each subsequent Independence Day, the prime minister has raised the flag and given a speech

Youth Day - 12th August

International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surroundingyouth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August, 2000.

International Youth Day is observed annually on 12 August. It is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During IYD, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.

IYD was designated by the United Nations in 1999 with the adoption of Resolution 54/120

International Youth Day's Slogan for 2014 is Youth and Mental Health. For 2015 it is Youth and Civic Engagement.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Condolences To Our Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen or A. P. J Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. A career scientist turned reluctant politician, Kalam was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation and was intimately involved in India's civilian space program and military missile development efforts.He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology.On 27 July 2015, Kalam travelled to Shillong to deliver a lecture on "Creating a Livable Planet Earth" at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. At around 6:35 p.m. IST, only five minutes into his lecture, he collapsed.He was rushed to the nearby Bethany Hospital in a critical condition; upon arrival, he lacked a pulse or any other signs of life.Despite being placed in the intensive care unit, Kalam was confirmed dead of a sudden cardiac arrest at 7:45 p.m IST. His last words, to his aide Srijan Pal Singh, were reportedly: "Funny guy! Are you doing well?"

Population Day - 11th July

World Population day' is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987-approximately the date on which the world's population reached five billion people.

The world population is estimated to be 7,137,661,030.

Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh in India is doing every effort to draw the attention of the Media and the masses towards the issues of Population Stabilization, JSK will organize a "Walkathon towards Population Stabilization" at India Gate on 11th July 2015. In this Walkathon thousand of youths from Universities, Colleges and various public and private colleges are expected to participate.

Environment Day - 5th June

'Seven Billion Dreams; One Planet; Consume with Care'

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme."Earth Anthem" by poet-diplomat Abhay K was launched in June 2013 on the occasion of the World Environment Day by Kapil Sibal and Shashi Tharoor, Union Ministers of India at a function organized by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations in New Delhi.It is in eight languages including all official languages of the United Nations which are- . Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish.The other two languages are Hindi and Nepali.

Women's Day - 8th March

Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity: Picture it!

International Women's Day, originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year.In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation, and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements. Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended the culture of many countries, primarily in Europe, especially those in the Soviet Blac. In some regions, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for people to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day. The UN theme for International Women's Day 2014 is "Equality for Women is Progress for All".

Science Day - 28th February

National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman on 28 February 1928.For his discovery, Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.National science day is celebrated as one of the main science festivals in India every year during which students of the schools and colleges demonstrates various science projects as well as national and state science institutions demonstrates their latest researches. The celebration also includes public speech, radio-TV talk shows, exhibitions of science movies, science exhibition based on themes and concepts, watching night sky, live projects and researches demonstration, debates, quiz competitions, lectures, science models exhibitions and many more activities. It is celebrated every year with immense passion by Radio Astronomy Centre.

Republic Day - 26th January

66th Republic Day

India became free in 1947. But on January 26, 1950 India breathed in the republican atmosphere. The Indian Constitution came into effect from that day. Since then this Day is celebrated as the Republic Day. New Delhi, the capital of our country, is the main centre of the Republic Day celebrations. A special parade is held on this day. The people gather at Raj path to see the ceremony. Republic Day is celebrated all over India with great pomp and fanfare. To celebrate the Republic Day with big pomp and show, extra security arrangements are made.A procession starts from Vijay Chowk. The President of India takes the salute from the Jawans of Army, Navy and Air-force. There is a display of marching units of bands, tanks and big guns. They are followed by Jhankis from all the states. Every state displays its tableau on this day and at the end, best tableau is awarded. There is a colourful fly past of aeroplanes. At night some important buildings are illuminated. The Chief Guest of 2015 Republic day celebration at New Delhi is Mr. Barack Obama ,The President of USA.

Human Rights Day - 10th December

" Human Rights 365 "

The UN General Assembly proclaimed 10 December as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.
This year’s slogan, Human Rights 365, encompasses the idea that every day is Human Rights Day. It celebrates the fundamental proposition in the Universal Declaration that each one of us, everywhere, at all times is entitled to the full range of human rights, that human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values.
